Video Game Design & Prototyping

About the Courses
Video Game Design & Prototyping is about more than just opening a game engine and putting a game together. It's about planning, drawing concepts, thinking through end goals, learning about what works and what doesn't, and building quick games to see if new ideas will actually work.
We'll go through the process of writing up quick design documents, draw up concepts, and plan our games, all while building simple prototypes to playtest our ideas.
All classes include links to free resources, learning materials, information about upcoming game development events, conferences, and game jams, communities and more.
I work primarily by helping each student with their own projects to help them get started and then help them through problems they encounter along the way.
While I work mainly in Unity, I have experience with other game engines, as well, and aim to help each student get along in the engine or environment of their choice, including mod tools.
I also have experience with 3D Modeling, minor experience with Photoshop and GIMP, and experience with writing music using traditional tools like Flat.io, as well as minor experience using DAWs for music.
Each class is 3-weeks long with only 1 session per week (1.5 hours each). Classes are scheduled based on everyone's availability.

Winter 2025 - May
Game Jam
Start a new game project in your selected game engine. We'll work together to get your strategy together and build your first game prototype.
Starting a new project can be both fun and daunting. If you don't know where to begin, you'll never start. But if you have an idea how to start, you'll look forward to the beginnings of each new project.
This short class will get you up and running and offer some valuable insights on how to get farther than just opening a Unity Scene (or whatever tool you choose to use).
This is a 3-week class with only 1 session per week (1.5 hours each). Classes are scheduled based on everyone's availability.
